Workplaces handling hazardous substances typically sit under two related but distinct regimes: DSEAR (the Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations), covering the risks of fire, explosion and corrosion from dangerous substances, and COSHH (the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations), covering the health risks from exposure. Both require a proper risk assessment before work starts — not as a formality, but as the basis for every control decision that follows.

A risk assessment that sits in a folder does not control risk. We help carry DSEAR and COSHH findings through into the systems that actually govern day-to-day work — safe systems of work, permits to work for higher-risk activities such as hot work or confined space entry, and the workplace policies and procedures that tell people what to do and when.

SIGNAGE, PACKAGING & DANGEROUS GOODS
Keeping hazard communication consistent from the workplace to the road.
Hazard communication does not stop at the risk assessment. It has to carry through into workplace signage — hazardous area and DSEAR zone marking, COSHH warning signs — and into packaging and labelling under CLP, so that anyone handling a substance can see what they are dealing with at a glance.
Where substances also move off-site, that same picture has to hold up under dangerous goods regulations for transport, such as ADR and the Carriage of Dangerous Goods and Use of Transportable Pressure Equipment Regulations (CDG), covering classification, packaging, marking and documentation. We help keep hazard information consistent from storage and handling through to transport, rather than it being worked out separately by whoever happens to be arranging the delivery.

Safety data sheets, substance and material data, and other hazard communications are only useful if the people who need them can actually find them when it matters — not archived in someone’s inbox or scattered across different systems. DSEAR assessments, COSHH controls, permits to work, workplace signage and dangerous goods paperwork are not separate from your product compliance obligations — they all draw on the same underlying picture of what a substance or material actually is. The classification and hazard data that REACH and CLP require you to establish is exactly the data a DSEAR or COSHH assessment needs to start from, and the same SVHC, RoHS or restricted-substance status that shapes a registration or labelling decision also shapes what belongs on a safety data sheet, a piece of workplace signage or a dangerous goods declaration.
