Many defence platforms and estate buildings were constructed or maintained using materials that are now recognised as containing asbestos. Where asbestos containing materials (ACMs) are present, organisations carry duties under the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012, including the duty to manage under Regulation 4 for non-domestic premises.
Refit, maintenance, alteration and disposal work can all be delayed or complicated where ACM status is unclear. Getting a clear, evidenced position early avoids work stopping unexpectedly once it is already under way.
