Legacy Equipment Assessment

Assessing long-lead items, older technology and in-service equipment against today’s regulatory and policy standards.
WHY THIS MATTERS

Equipment outlives the regulations it was designed under.

Defence platforms often run service lives measured in decades. Equipment specified and procured years ago can now sit awkwardly against current REACH, RoHS, DSEAR or Ministry of Defence policy requirements, particularly where a substance embedded in a legacy sub-system has since been restricted or become a Substance of Very High Concern.

The challenge is sharpest for long-lead items, where redesign or re-sourcing decisions taken now have to anticipate where regulation is heading, not just where it stands today.

WHAT WE DO

A clear, current position on equipment already in service.

We assess legacy equipment against today’s regulatory and policy landscape, not the standards it was originally designed to.

1
Material and substance assessment
Reviewing the material and substance content of legacy equipment against current REACH, RoHS and related restrictions.
2
Restricted substance identification
Identifying where a restricted or prohibited substance is embedded in in-service kit, and what that means practically for continued use.
3
Maintenance and alteration review
Assessing proposed maintenance or alteration work against current standards, so changes do not inadvertently introduce a new compliance gap.
4
Gap analysis
Comparing the equipment’s original certification basis with today’s regulatory position, to identify where action is genuinely needed.
HOW WE HELP

Risk-based decisions for equipment already in service.

Not every legacy compliance gap needs the same response. We help you separate what needs action now from what can be monitored, so long-lead procurement and redesign decisions are made on the right evidence.

Technical assessment of legacy equipment against current regulatory requirements
Identification of restricted or prohibited substances in existing in-service kit
Risk-based prioritisation of what needs action now versus ongoing monitoring
Support for maintenance and alteration proposals to stay within current standards
Evidence to support through-life management and long-lead procurement decisions
